Sad, shocking news. Hope she recovers physically. This will be so hard for her mentally though. The attention those nails got was amazing. She was going to cut them last year but could not do it. To have them gone so suddenly after 30 years is very sad. Hope entire nail community keeps Lee in their prayers. Curious how 'mainstream' media will handle reporting. Mz. Erotica surely has the longest female nails now.

ED,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Lee is definitely one of the all time great nail queens, and deserves all the recognition and attention she gets. Here's wishing her a speedy recovery!!!
when anyone is hurt seriously like that. It will indeed be a difficult mental blow for her to recover from aside from her physical injuries. She will certainly be in my prayers for a fast and complete recovery.

I think mentally it will be very hard but the most important is that she recovers good from the physical injurys, health is very important.
I wish her all the best,
best regards,

These are really bad news.
Severe car accident is always something sad.
I hope both the driver and Lee will recover from their situation... :(

Just saw this on Digg, I ran right over.
Speedy recovery, hope she continues to enjoy her life, even without nails (assuming she doesn't patch up and go on). Most of all, with her previous history and current sentiment in the USA, I am hoping the accident was not her fault!
Edit: Omigosh, just remembered...who will take care of her husband now? Doesn't he have Alzheimer's or something?

Thanks for posting this update. What I truly found interesting were the reader comments (96 at last count). It's amazing what a-holes some people can be. There were some very rude comments about Lee having such long nails in the first place, and how glad some folks are about her losing them.
But there were also some great comments from people who know her well, including relatives. They all describe what a warm hearted, positive, giving woman she is. It's obvious what a better place the world is having people like her in it. :)
Let's hope she and the others involved make a speedy recovery.

I am deeply sorry for what happened to Mrs. Redmond and the other victims in the accident. Hopefully they will recover soon, and hopefully Mrs. Redmond knows that now and in the future she is and she will still be the very same magnificent and unique lady that she was before her nails broke and when her nails were so unbelievably huge and beautiful.
No one can give her back her unique treasure that she lost, but her nails were "only" a what shined out from her personality. Her inner self that made her unbelievable accomplishment possible is sill intact and unique.

What a terrible thing to happen to such a wonderful lady. The most important thing, of course, is that the injuries are not life threatening and that she will recover. I hope that she will be able to handle the loss of her nails emotionally. I know that she had planned to cut them last year, but this was supposed to be on her terms. I wonder if anyone recovered the nails and what will become of them. Anyway, thoughts and prayers for her return to good health. Steve

I hope that Lee has a speddy recovery and she won't be too upset about losing her nails. Didn't a Japanese company offer her $1M to cut her nails on Japanese TV some time ago? I heard that she refused the offer.

A more recent article on Mrs. Redmond and the status of her recovery

My thoughts and best wishes are with Mrs. Redmond. Hopefully she will also be able to recover mentally from the shock of losing her beloved nails. It must be a nightmare for her.

"The longest nail - on her right thumb - was a sickening 2 feet, 11 inches." [my emphasis].
The usual objective reporting from the hand-wringing Daily Mail.

I also wish Lee Redmond a speedy and full recovery.
To me she will always be one of the most remarkable women and LNB's I have ever seen and I want to thank her for trying to make this, mostly "anti long nailed", world a better place.
Greetings,
Martin aka luvlongestnails
Sad indeed. Hope she'll be fine.

I agree about the insensitive "... usual objective reporting..."; however the sidebar had a photo of a pretty awesome toenail (though out of context): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1147541/Strictly-stylish-Tess-Daly-turns-heads-pregnancy-chic-fashion-party.html .
