When you paint your nails, why do you leave a thin band just below the cuticle line unpainted? Is that the correct method to paint nails or does it have some other benefit that I don't know about?

Would you care to educate me and any others who might not know why it is this way?

Yes that is the correct way of applying nail polish because the area next to the cuticles is the actual "alive" part of the nail and leaving it uncovered keeps the nail healthy and allows it to "breath"...that is the part wich has living cells...once they go over that part they r dead...thats why the nail gets slightlly yellow...

And another reason is that when u get the colour all over the cuticles and sides it looks very unprofessional...and messy...i cant stand that lol
Or even if u go right next to the cuticles they look flooded...not very nice...
