40 pictures in this gallery, but no nails, sorry. On my last full day in Bucharest, Mihaela, Francoise and Raoull made sure we made the most of it. We did so much on this Monday, I never thought I could have done it all in 4 days but we did it on 1 day. I started off my Monday by spending a few hours with Mihaela and Raoull, as we did the official tour of The Parliament Palace. I'm told that this is the second biggest building in the world, second only to The Pentagon. The pictures below do tell the story. I am particularly proud of them. Actually we start off with a couple of night shots of The Palace which I took the night before as Mihaela took us for a drive around town. It was a rainy night, but a beautiful one just the same. The town is so vibrant, so busy, so active, so alive. Mihaela was kind enough to stop in the parking lot across from the front of The Palace, and this allowed me to snap a few pictures. The next day around noon, she parked in exactly the same place and I got the same shots, but in daylight. The Palace is unbeleivable. Big, gawdy, the best of everyting in stone, marble, glass, wood. Everything huge. It looks close from the parking lot, but it's a fair walk to get there. The closer you get, the more you sense just what a major accomplishment this was to build. When inside, the rooms and walkways are so huge .... just a once in a lifetime experience.
As some of us plan to visit Bucharest next year during our 2008 Bucharest Convention, we should indeed consider a tour of this huge building as part of the itinerary. You will not be sorry when you see it all. The tour ends with a visit to the outside viewing area "balcony" where I got those shots toward the end. Just breathtaking, nice shots of the main road in downtown Bucharest. All I can say is WOW. Hope you enjoy these as i do. And I hope you consider Bucharest for 2008. I'm returning to get more of it. Can't wait.
