My most recent visit to our Las Vegas Office happened just a week ago, as I post this update page.
The trip was divided into two sections. The first two days were spent with members of my family, and after that, the last two days of the four day trip were spent with Linda, Lonnie and Becca.
I decided to do something different on this trip because of the time I was to spend with my cousin and his family, as i stayed on The Strip for the entire 4 nights. My hotel this time was The Mirage. Many reading this have stayed there, or at least visited there at some point while being in town. The hotel is a beauty, and I had one of those exotic suites up on the 27th floor. 1300 square feet, a bathroom that is bigger than most hotel rooms in Vegas, a dining room table, and the hotel provides turn down service for those staying in these rooms. ie. they come in at some point in the evening and leave you chocolates on the bed, fresh cut flowers, etc. Quite extravagent. A very nice looking hotel. And that's about all the good things I can say about the Mirage.
I spent the four nights here, and because of this, I spent most of my gambling money and time here. I kept putting dough into the machines, and nothing was coming back. It was awful. I highly recommend to anyone reading this to NOT gamble here, it's a bottomless pit for cash. I got absolutely nothing back on a several thousand dollar investment. Visit here, eat the food, enjoy the scenery, but never put a dollar into these machines ..... they are $$$ gobblers and it's a one way street. I proved it beyond a shadow of doubt as I ventured off to other hotels to gamble and found the returns to be fair at these other places. The Mirage Casino is the worst! Don't say you were not warned.
I arrived late Friday night as I usually do, around 10:30PM. I stayed up most of the night and sunk a thousand big ones into the Mirage money pit and went to bed around 5AM. I woke up at 9:30 and ended up spendi9ng all day in the casino and in my room, going for dinner at The Flamingo across the street from my hotel. I got back around 11PM and gambled some more. Went to bed around 1AM, and woke up Sunday really tired and broke and broken hearted. Damn this trip sucked up to this point. The room was great, but this "bad luck" just kept getting worse.
Around lunch time, Linda called and we made arrangements to meet downstairs in the lobby.
Linda, Lonnie and Becca and I eventually decided to head to a hotel we had never visited before, probably "the final frontier" of hotels as they say which is appropriate, because the Las Vegas Hilton seems to have two themes upon which it is based - that being the Star Trek Exhibit, restaurant, and casino, as well as the fact that this was the hotel that Elvis Presley appeared at and lived at for several years back in the later stages of his career.
On this Sunday I did not have my camera with me, but Linda did, and her and I shot a few pictures at The Las Vegas Hilton as we arrived. The Elvis theme and the Star Trek Themes are very apparent throughout this fine place.
We spent a few hours gambling and at around 6:30 decided to eat. We decided to take full advantage of the visit and we ate at "Quarks". Now, let's set one thig straight - I am not a trekkie. I find those that are to be annoying and boring. There are those trekkies out there that can name every episode of Star Trek, they can give you minute details of things that no human being should ever have the time to learn ... and yet ... these trekkies surround us with the Spock ears and crazy outfits depicting characters from some of those ancient episodes. At any rate, we ate at Quarks. The whole restaurant is done up in The Star Trek theme, a big screen TV is showing on old episode, the waiters are adorned in Star Trekkian garb, the whole thing is laughable. The food wasn't bad, I had a sitr fry, it was quite good. Worthy of serving in the USS Enterprise. Ahem. Oh great, now ya got me doing it.
That was a fun visit. I got a players card and I'll stay there on one of my future trips, it's a very nice hotel. The machines paid back a little bit and it was a pleasure visiting here.
We ended up leaving the hotel and headed back to The Mirage. We visited my room and took some pictures, before my three guests had to leave as some had to work the next day. Thanks to Lindanails and Rebs for posing for these, and you can shoot me now or later for the crappy quality on these. I guess I'll never make a great photographer.

Lin, Lon and Rebs left and the night was still young, so I decided to go downstairs and hit the bank machine and play some different machines to see if I could change my luck here at my hotel. Not a freaking chance for that to happen! Worse than ever. It suddenly occurred to me that this casino was never busy. These machines were always available, there was never a crowd here. I guess word already got around that this place was the worst! As I recall now, the previous night - Saturday - I walked through here a few times, and while the sidewalk outside was jammed, the restaurants packed with people, the lobby packed as well, this casino was virtually empty. Now I know.
Next morning I got up early again, played the casino and lost big time again. I am stupid. The definition of a stupid person is one who keeps on making the same mistakes over and over and over again. I qualify. I gambled for three hours before returning upstairs to the room, throwing my hands up in disgust as this Mirage casino sucked big time as usual.
It's Monday, my last full day in Vegas on this trip. Linda called me at noon and came over and picked me up 45 minutes later. We were headed "home" to Fremont Street. Lin parked at Main Street ... ahhh familiar territory. We walked the "Charlie" route from Main Street to Fremont. If you knew Charlie, you know what the Charlie Route is.
Lunch time - what better way to satisfy that hunger urge than to hit the lunch counter at The Fremont Hotel. Another reference to Charlie here - this is the last place Lin and I ate with Charles back in March before we saw him off on his shuttle to the airport. We sat in the same seats, ordered the same thing. It was delicious as usual. We never talked about it, but we knew what each other was thinking throughout.
We then gambled for several hours at The Fremont, Binions, visiting Golden Nugget, Four QUeens and then Fitzgeralds. It was at Fitzgeralds that Becca met with us around dinner time, and upon arrival at the upstairs double diamond machines along with Becca, came our good friend Lisa who still works at Fitzgeralds in the restaurant. What a pleasure to see her! Becca and Lisa ran into each other on the escalator! Great to see this gorgeous LNB once again. Lonnie arrived and we sat and talked for a few minutes before deciding on what to do for dinner. We decided on The Fremont Buffet finally.
We ate dinner and called it an early night. I was really tired, and was leaving the next day around noon, and the others had to work the next day, and for all intents and purposes, this trip was over.
We said our goodbyes to Lon and Becca. Linda drover me back to The Mirage.
Back at my hotel, I gambled for short time and then went to bed that Monday night, arising very early and heading back to the casino floor once again, but this act was wearing very thin - money in and zero coming back. What a lame excuse for a casino. So unfair. Pisses me off.
Just before I left for the airport Tuesday morning, I shot some pictures of my hotel room.

Hey, I took the picture of the toilet not just to show the toilet, but because of the phone beside the toilet. Be aware that if someone ever calls you from The Mirage, they may be speaking to you from the throne. To me, this is a concern. :)Many thanks to Lindanailz, Lonnie and Becca for taking the time and visiting me at my hotel and for making this latest Vegas trip memorable. You three are wonderful hosts in a fantastic city that I just connot get enough of. Be forewarned ... I'll be back soon.
